[comp.sys.amiga] one last word on UW

rminnich@udel.EDU (Ron Minnich) (12/23/87)

One last time: to run uw, run uw on your amiga, then login and run
uw on your Unix host. The window will go away and then come back. Then
all the menu items work i.e. you can spawn up to six additional
windows (+ the one you have makes seven).
   The uw i shipped out may be less than perfect. I stopped using
uw last september when i got amigatcp. Main reason was that i can
multiplex telnet and ftp; and ftp on slip is at least 10 times as
fast as kermit. Before i got amigatcp i was going to add an option to
amiga uw so that you could have a port per window for amiga processes
to talk to. Note that uw is a multiplexer to unix processes, much
like Thinwire III. Next would be to have kermit open that port ...
voila, you are talking to kermit on Unix. Please oh please don't build
kermit into uw! That it seems to me is counter to the whole Amiga
philosiphy. Multitasking, right?
   Now if i could only get this last bug out of internet.device ...
Turns out i am doing everything right that anyone can think of;
it just won't work!
