I really do not believe this. I logged on, went to rn, and saw to my horror that there were 419 unread articles in comp.sys.amiga. ACK! The k key got a workout today, I will tell you. Anyway, half of the posts were garbage from users who obviously have not gotten within 5 feet of an Amiga (they probably think they will catch something), WORK with Multitasking systems, and STILL maintain that the general public is not smart/rich enough to want to use them. Everyone has a little 'walk-and-chew-gum' analogy, or 'fix- dinner' tale to tell. Lemme tell you about the general public. I am the president of ECCO, the East County Commodore Users group. I have seen more users who just 'bought the thing to play games' end up being programmers at heart. How are people supposed to start? Do you hatch from an egg and *poof*, you're a programmer? No, you get interested in it through either seeing it or reading about it. Then (and I know almost everyone has) you play some games and futz around until you are ready to learn. Why would anyone want to stick with a computer that cannot do what you would like it to? I moved away from the Commodore 64 because it was a bit too limited for me -- but only after having used it for 4 years. So, I hear folks who have obviously spent a lot of money on a good comp like the IBM or ST saying 'well, I would never use that'. Fine. You don't have to use it, and cannot use it as well. So that makes you bound and determined to prove that it is useless? Give up. Are you all piqued at having bought a system three years ago that has been rendered obsolete by the new operating systems coming out? Upgrade. A lot of folks in the user group would not EVER buy another comp without multitasking -- these same folks who you have determined are far too shallow to be able to fully appreciate multitasking. If you are not a certified high-speed driver, and have not taken several courses to show you how to drive at that high rate, does that mean you can derive no enjoyment from driving a Lotus? No. Oh God...I just used an analogy...quick, someone, hand me some asbestos...I hear some prima-donnas firing up their flamethrowers. But, notice, that I have NOT cross-posted this, and if folks from other newsgroups read this, it is because they wish to. In closing, I would like to point out that some of the systems that use the carousel and other forms of psuedo-M/Tasking are fine. BUT, they do NOT do all that M/T systems can, be they Sun or Amiga, and they cannot do them as well. Sorry, Charlie.
