I have been having trouble being connected to a remote VAX. I have an Avatex 1200 modem and I am running VT100v2.6 on an A1000. I can dial out to various machines fine, but I cannot receive calls, at least in the following mode: I telephone the remote site and they transfer me to one of their modems. I wait for the remote modem signal (i.e. for the clicks and clunks of transfering to end), push the "data" button -- and nothing happens. (Occasionaly, I get CONNECT 1200 followed by instant garbage and drop out by the remote modem.) I talked to Avatex, and the above was their recommended procedure for making such a connection. When I was last at the remote site I tested this procedure to a friend running VT100v? on an A1000 and an Avatex 1200 modem -- with the same result. The modem on the VAX is a Racal Vadic 212(something). There seem to be three possiblities: VT100v2.6 is not capable of handling this, the Avatex 1200 modem is not capable of doing this, or there is a bizarre incompatibility between the two modems. Does anyone have advice about this problem? (If VT100 is not currently capable of doing such a thing, perhaps this could be added to the list of desired changes in new versions.) e-mail replies to me at: arxt@sphinx.uchicago.edu Thanks.
