I recently purchased a MiniScribe 3650, a Western Digital Controller (IBM), and an external box. I put it all together and with some help from the comp.sys.ibm.pc people, I found out how to do a low level format of the drive. Unfortunately, I did not get a spec sheet with the drive so I can't do the format properly. When I use the default info, I get a 20M drive! I need to know the following to format it properly: Total number of cylinders Total number of heads Write Precomp Cylinder Starting reduced write cylinder Max correctable error burst length CCB option byte If anyone has the information, I would really appreciate having it too! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In Real Life: Michael Nowak Via Internet: mike@ronin.cc.umich.edu Via UUCP: uunet!umix!ronin.cc.umich.edu!mike Working for but in no way representing the University of Michigan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your replies. I got the following info if anyone is interested: 809 Cylinders 6 Heads Write Precomp Cylinder is 128 or 300 (two different answers) Starting Reduced Write Cylinders is 852 or 810 (two answers) Max Correctable Burst Length is 11 CCB Option byte is 7 or 5. I'm not sure why I got multiple answers - maybe there are different versions of the manual. Anyway, thanks for your replies.
