[comp.sys.amiga] C64-MIDI project

pmy@boole.acc.virginia.edu (Pete Yadlowsky) (12/30/87)

Hello,

I was recently given a C64, and have decided to try slaving it to my
Amiga, for use as an intelligent MIDI processor (a la MPU-401). All
I have is the CPU box (no drives or other peripherals, except cassette)
and the programmer's guide. For now, I can have the C64 and Amiga
share the 1080 monitor, switching between RGB and composite video.

I'm tentatively planning to link the Amiga and C64 via high-speed
flow-controlled parallel interface, and to leave all (or most) of
the MIDI-speak to the C64.

So, I have a few questions:

1) Does anyone make a cable which splits the C64's 5-pin DIN audio/video
connector to 3 RCA plugs (video out, audio out, audio in)?

2) MIDI interfaces for C64?

3) Parallel interfaces? Can the C64 support 2) and 3) simultaneously?

4) Disk drives: what are the differences between 1541/71/81 ?

5) What MIDI software is available for the C64?

6) I might decide to use the C64 as a disk-less, OS-less Forth-based
   controller. Any Forth-in-ROM program cartridges?

Sorry to bother you kind folks with all these questions, but perusals
through CBM mags were fruitless. I'd greatly appreciate any info,
hints or suggestions.
