[comp.sys.amiga] _Long_ comment and appologies to all that i've hot headed.

CRONEJP@UREGINA1.BITNET (Jonathan Crone) (01/01/88)

I really should learn to take a nap to decompress after work and
before reading Comp.sys.amiga and blasting messages everywhere....
Eric Lavitsky, Perry Kivolwitz (sp??) at ASDG
George Robbins, Rick Sterling at CBM-AMIGA.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

there my conscience is assuaged and i can honestly let netland know
that i'm not a hot headed maniac.

I called Micron again....
after chatting for a while again with them, i've ordered one of the
asdg designed 2 meg ram boards, along with the double slot cage and
the power supply for it.
(WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!)
I never noticed that the A2052 needs 3 amps.... I DID remember that
amy can put out 1 amp..... silly me and my ammeter.

here are some of my comments wrt to a message from eric....
sorry for non standard format but i'm reading and talking
to comp.sys.amiga on a non unix box, so i don't get the neat mailer
software...
*> me acting dumb and flaming at ppl.
> eric.

*>Well after reading the latest mail from Comp.sys.amiga and seeing
*>exactly three messages consisting totally of ASDG and Commodore beating
*>each others heads in, I'd like to thank you both for ruining my impressions
*>of the people involved.

>I hardly think that the messages between George and myself can be construed
>as our beating each others heads in. George and I know each other and are
>actually quite friendly. I have no animosity towards Commodore and I'm sure
>the same can be said of Commodore towards ASDG - George was simply keeping
>me in line (hey, I'm human - I get carried away and hype our products a
>little too much every now and then :-) - 'nuff said.
Its ok... i got a little carried away.... and based on what i've seen,
ASDg has reason to be proud.. i simply can't afford it.... sigh..

*>There, the truth is out..... I bought the A2052 memory card at cost.
*>I figured that would be the most cost effective way for me to get
*>myself 2 megs of future compatible memory.
*>I called ASDG, had a chat with a couple of people there, and they recommended
*>micron as a manufacturer of card cages. AT NO time was any mention
*>made of this SUBSET or SUPERSET Zorro II crap thats been flying about
*>WRT to my Christmas day message asking why my A2052 wouldn't work in the micro
*>cage.

>We obviously assumed that you would be purchasing a board from Micron
>as well. Sounds like a simple misunderstanding here - I don't think we
>specifically told you that you would be able to use *other* peoples products
>in the Micron chassis. You can still buy a Micron board at cost if you
>work for a dealer.
Sorry about that Eric, i should have stated my plans quite clearly.
I had been considering the ASDG 8M but 1 meg rams are QUITE expensive up here.
Also, our distributors don't seem to have Micron equipment listed.

*>I called micron, asked them if the cage was FULLY Zorro II compatible,
*>and they said YES.

>If this is really the case, we will be in contact with Micron to correct
>the situation. Their boards are fully Zorro compliant, but the single slot
>adapter is not. They should not be telling their customers otherwise.
Tis possible that the marking guy didn't know what i was babblying about.

below is me being unreasonable with the keyboard.
*>I then ordered one, assuming that by FULLY compatible, it would work
*>with something from the company that ORIGINATED the DA*N spec in the first
*>place.
*>I receive the cage, install it, and the memory and then procede to spend an
*>entire long lonely Christmas weekend tearing my HAIR out trying to figure
*>out why the cage won't work.
*>(INCLUDING tracing every single trace on the damn card cage motherboard)
*>
*>I now read commodore and asdg bashing each other and NOT helping me in
*>anyway like suggesting,, fix this or that.... instead i'm told to
*>buy this or that, and take this or that back.

>Sorry Jonathan - I'm afraid we offered whatever suggestions were possible,
>would you rather we hadn't? There just wasn't a "fix" that we could offer
>other than to recommend returns/changes.
Actually your suggestions were quite reasonable for the situation
and i'd like to thank you for explaining what exactly
was meant wrt to the various Zorro II situations.

*>I'm PISSED OFF...
*>
*>I bought the A2052 because even though I'd love to, I can't afford ASDG's
*>products.... everyone says they are the best, but I CAN'T afford $500 US
*>for a BARE BOARD. let alone whatever the price is for 16 1 megbit drams.
*>
*>Well ok thanks for nothing much everyone.

>That's what we get for trying to help... (sigh)

I was being a bad boy with the Pissed off comment....
I should not have expected a ruddy miracle from the newsgroup,
everyone is only human. and i was being an idiot....

apologies to all involved....
