A while back, I posted a query to this newsgroup regarding potential sources of (relatively) inexpensive 1 megabit x 1 DRAM chips. (These are the chips I need to populate my new ASDG 8 MB RAM board for my new Amiga 2000.) The best tip I received was from Roger Uzun (uzun@wolf.UUCP), which is this: In recent (e.g. December 10, 1987) issues of EDN Magazine, there is an ad for a "limited time trial offer" from OKI Semiconductor (Sunnyvale, CA) (408-720-1900). They will sell you up to 3 DRAM "kits." Each "kit" contains 1 byte with parity (that's 9) 1 megabit x 1 (120ns) DRAM chips. Price: $186.00 per kit, plus $3.00 per kit for shipping/handling. Total price: $189.00 per kit. (Limit of 3 kits per customer). The kits must be purchased with check or money order; and no company purchase orders are accepted. The coupon in the EDN ad said the offer expired December 31, 1987. However, I called Audrey Mendez at OKI Semiconductor. She said that it was still OK for me to order the kits, providing I gave her my name so she would expect to receive my check in a couple of days. (She also said it was OK for me to spread the word about this deal.) This deal works out to $21.00 per chip. If anyone out there in netland is interested, they should call Ms. Mendez ASAP and see if they can get the same deal for themselves.
