I need some sort of software tool to organize the comp.sys.amiga archives I've been keeping. I have been filling three or four 3.5" floppies a month with the discussion, and now, after eight months, it is an unholy mess. What I need is something that can make use of the information in the headers to organize the database. So, when I come across some problem with DoIO, and remember Matt Dillon discussed that how to use that call, I can just look for his name and pull the associated subject lines. Since the collection is now up to 22 disks, I expect I'll need an index disk, containing only key headers and a pointer to the right disk volume and file. Maintaining such an index disk is a pretty straight forward DBMS application, but I would also want an integrated interface. Rather than searching the database with a general DBMS and extracting the volume and file name, and then typing that into less, I would hope it could be better integrated than that. With a full-up hypertext implementation, I could even chase down all the darn references ( e.g. In <5213069038johnson@obi-wan>, ... ) But it would probably be more work setting up the links than would be worth it. Keep in mind that 90% of the archive is junk like "I'm having trouble with DPaint I under DOS 1.1", so large up-front costs to set up the database are not a good idea. Until now, I have been using the CLI "SEARCH" command on individual disks. 'SEARCH #? "ols ewhac"' gave me Leo's e-mail address pretty quick. But as the number of disks grows, this becomes less and less efficient.keelmore Anyone have any suggestions? LT Scott A.
