[what's my line?] Well, I've just sent my latest and greatest utility program to the comp.*.amiga moderators. Those of you who enjoy HeliosMouse, ClickUpFront, and wKeys should love this. What is it? It's called wIconify, and it allows you to change any window on the workbench screen into a small icon on the workbench itself (like the Disk icons). These can be selected moved around, openned by double clicking, openned and closed via the OPEN and CLOSE workbench menu items, etc. Multiple icons can be selected, moved and openned at the same time. The best thing is that it works with EXISTING applications. ANY window on the workbench screen can be iconified. Programs do not need to be modified in order to take advantage of wIconify. Of course, programs will be able to supply their own icon images, and will be able to control when they are iconified, if they want to. I am releasing the executable now (since there has been a flurry of iconify programs recently), and will release the source code as soon as I finish documenting it. The programmer's interface will be released and documented at that time. In the meantime, I'd be interested in peoples' speculations on how it works! I also will be sending a program that allows you to set the icon image to be used for windows that don't set their own, and I will ship a new version of wKeys that allows you to iconify windows, as well (as soon as I finish it). Note that I am NOT charging any money for this, even though wIconify took over TWO MONTHS to write. I write this stuff and distribute it because it makes me proud to think that people all over the country, and even the world, are using my programs. Every time someone mentions HeliosMouse or ClickUpFront on the net, I feel good. What I AM asking is that if you use wIconify and like it, send me electronic mail that says "thank you, I like." I want my system manager to be upset with me because my mailbox is overflowing :-) Also, if I have your name and e-mail address, I can try to let you know if I find any bugs or put out new versions. Please see the PLEA FOR MAIL section in the documentation for more information. Remember, however, that this is just a request; you can use wIconify even if you don't send me mail. As usual, I extent the offer to mail wIconify to anyone who can't wait for the moderators. They've been doing VERY well, lately, so there really shouldn't be a long delay. Davide P.
