Is there any way to discover the topology of USENET; i.e., what's connected to what? My specific need is to mail to someone who is connected through "mhuxm", a Bell Labs, Murray Hill machine. But, I would like to not have to ask these questions at all, or at least infrequently. The ARPAnet keeps an up-to-date (reasonably) map of what's where (and connectivity isn't even needed by users!). Is there anything comparable; any tool; anything at all available? Steve Dyer "decvax!wivax!dyer" "ucbvax!sdyer@BBN-UNIX"

First, to answer dyer's question: a path from wivax to mhuxm is wivax.decvax.harpo.eagle.mhuxt.mhuxa.mhuxh.mhuxm This is the way the net routes it. According to the net map I have (explained below), this is about the 'shortest' path. I was given a copy of a 'USENET Logical Map' dated Feb 1, 1982 by Bill and Karen Shannon. I was told that the folks at Berkeley keep it up to date. How about it Berkeley????? How do we get it?? (Apologies if this has already been answered; I'm behind on net.general!) Me again. I just re-read my article and want to clarify that the Shannon's did not give me the netmap; they are the 'authors' of said network map. dave
