Greetings, I'm thinking of purchasing an Amiga. I'm taking a class called, "Animated Video" or some such at a local junior college (I work FULL time) which involves several animator programs etc. So far I'm *very* favorably impressed with the Amiga. It seems to be a good combination of "hackers" machine (multiprocessing, upgradeable, etc.), and it seems to be the best graphics machine in it's price class. Some of my concerns are: 0. Which model the 500 or the 2000, OR a used 1000 (which I understand could use my color t.v. for a low/med??? res moniter. Price is a concern, but I plan to upgrade. Is the 2000 worth double the cost of the 500???? My begining configuration would probably be 2 "sloppy" disks, 1 hard disk, 3 MB of memory, if need be a color moniter. 1. Is it true that there is a bug with the hard disk driver for the 2000? What are the ramifications? Should I wait a month or two to get the next rev driver? What about SCSI disks? I understand the 2000 can be upgraded to use them? Any ideas about costs? 2. Is 3 MB a *good* beginning (for memory)? Our professor said, "Virtually all of the problems we experience [in the class] are related to memory? Would I be much happier with 5 MB? 3. Is there a workaround to use my T.V. instead of buying a moniter? I would *MUCH* prefer to have a 19" screen, any good suggestions? Prices?? As I said before price is a factor, also my two other computers are Victors so please reasure me that this machine will be around for a while. I would prefer to receive answers directly. D. R.
