[comp.sys.amiga] My quest for RAM: The continuing saga...

Here's what happened to me:
In a recent post, I talked about the prices I found for 4 different 2MB
expansion boards. They were: Starboard II, Escort II, Alegra and ASDG.
Of those, I was leaning toward the Escort II, because of its price. I then
got a recommendation on Micron's board. I decided to look into it, since it
is Zorro II compatable. I called Family Computer Center in NJ and was told
that the Micron was so unreliable with the adapter needed for the A1000, that
they wouldn't sell me one. Their recommendation was the Escort II, and since
the price was ok, I ordered it. They said they would have to get one from
Expansion Tech. and would let me know when it was in. Next day I get a call
saying that Expansion had raised their wholesale price to a little more than
the deal I had worked out with Family Computers! The guy (who was quite decent
to deal with; I wouldn't hesitate to do business there) knew I'd seen the
board just as cheap at GO AMIGO, and told me to call back and get one from
them before it was too late. So I did. GO AMIGO said that they would not
honor the $499 price they had given to me, but would now instead charge
$589. I ended up calling RSISystems and ordering a Starboard II for $550.
The moral of this story? Find a place that has a product IN STOCK and buy
it NOW! Other than the Micron board (which, btw, is suposedly fine for an
A2000), all of the other boards came highly rated by the people who sent me
email or posted news. With the situation the way it is, I recommend not
being too picky right now unless there is some feature you MUST have, etc.
The differences in these boards are probably not worth up to $100 (if it
stops there). Hope I've saved some grief...
