[comp.sys.amiga] Power on/Power off?

kjames@afit-ab.arpa (Keith James) (01/28/88)

I've been reading in this group about keeping the power up on the Amiga
at ALL times and understand about preventing stress on the circuits.
I've tried it and have a few questions. The disk drives appear to be
checking for a disk every few seconds (a 'click'). Is this causing any
undo wear and tear?

A friend suggested leaving a disk in each drive at all times. Does the
disk cycle down if there's no access to it? Any harm to the disk?

Thanks for the help. I'm hoping to keep my A1000 for along time and would
appreciate any suggestions on increasing it's life.

I have a Pd program that turns off the klick on *MOST* drives.
I still haven't been sucessful with UUENCODE on my Amiga, in other
words I can't make it encode a file!! Some people have told me how to encode
files, but their commands don't work.?? If anyone can give me exact cli
commands thet work, I'll post noklick.arc to you...

I also have a question... Can someone give me a rough dollar/cents figure for
eaving the amiga 1000 on for x length of time.. e.g. $1/day ? Or is it higher.
