:> For all of you thinking about uw, ... :> I would STRONGLY recommend that you bag uw and move on over :> to DNET. : :Just where is DNET. I haven't heard much at all about it and it has :not been posted here. : :> DNET allows amiga processes to :> talk to Unix processes, whereas uw wires amiga windows to unix processes. :> ron (rminnich@udel.edu) : DNET is currently in alpha test (via an announcement I made on the net a few weeks back) by various usenet and ARPAnet people. The rest of you will have to wait for the release that will happen in about a month. The release will have a much better user interface, and there will be a version that works over both the serial port and the parallel port. The release will also, hopefully, have better response for terminal windows. You will be able to run multiple DNET's in the release version. There will be remote-control provisions allowing other programs to control connecting/disconnecting the network. :How hard is it to port to a non-unix environment (VMS)? Or is it :hardwired to pty's, pipes, etc. The UNIX side of DNET was written for 4.3BSD UNIX, and appears to work on various 'compatible' operating systems. DNET relies heavily on the asynchronous IO capabilities and on 4.3 UNIX domain sockets. Since I am not familar with VMS I cannot say how hard it would be to port it. I'd rather not go into a detailed description of what it is, because then you will all get hyped up now, with the release over a month away. Suffice it to say that, at this moment, I've got two terminal sessions running, a file transfer going, and a little window on my amiga graphically showing the load average on cory.berkeley.edu . -Matt
