I recall someone asking about MandFXP by CygnusSoft. I just received version 3.0 in the mail today, and was impressed...well worth the $15 ($10 if you send them a disk and mailer). Standard features: -- Zoom in and out, with aspect ratio restoration. -- Window sizing. -- Change resolution, # bitplanes. -- Change colors and increment. -- Load/save pictures in IFF format. -- Change # of iterations/pixel. Nonstandard features: -- Much faster than any other Mandelbrot generator I've seen. -- Includes both Mandelbrot and Julia fractals. -- Allows in-memory storing of up to ten "preset" images or specs. -- Allows in-memory storing of up to three color sets. -- Automatic color cycling on demand. -- Help feature for every menu item. -- "Scrolling" with the numeric keypad--finally, a program that does this: allows you to "pan" through the set. -- Three dimensions, though this isn't handled as well as it is in MSE. -- "Remember" mode stores pixel information in memory, so when you want to do trivial things like change the number of bitplanes, boundary thickness, etc., it doesn't have to recalculate all the pixels. -- "Show Info" item shows all important information about current location, precision, # iterations, etc. at a glance. If you want to try it out, there is a public domain demonstration version floating around that's a bit slower and has a lot of the neat features disabled; probably on GEnie and Compu$ and all those services. To get the registered version, send $15, or $10 + disk & mailer, to: CygnusSoft Software P.O. Box 363 1215 Davie St. Vancouver, B.C.
