I submitted this article a few days ago, and have gotten no response. Since then, I found out that ihnss, through which our netnews was routed, has been coughing and sputtering this week, and so another machine has been put to the task. I am submitting this again, in hopes that it will get thru. I have a problem with netnews that I hope someone out there in net- land can help me with. I have a sizable number of newsgroups in the options line in my .newsrc file (specified in the affirmative, i.e. "options -n grp1 grp2 grp3 .... grpn"), but many of them never show up when I run readnews. It seems to be groups that fall later in the options line, but I'm not sure yet that this is always the case. Could it be that I have exceeded a limit on the length of this line? I thought that 512 chars. was the limit (I believe that one of the speakers at a recent symposium on exptools said this), and my options line falls within that. The missing newsgroups *do* show up if I ask for them when executing readnews (using "-n"). Thanks in advance for any help with this. Nick Di Masi ...!ihuxq!fldop " !iwsl4!njd
