[comp.sys.amiga] Handy uses for a virus

terry@wsccs.UUCP (terry) (02/26/88)

Some good has come from the SCA virus after all... I have just
completed a hack so the 68010 patch for the MPSW instruction lives across
warm boots. This would allow you to run the transformer and all your
incompatable games (except some patching themselves into the warm boot
vector) with a 68010 in your machine.

I am torn between posting it as beggarware or selling it. How
much do I *REALLY* have to mod code before it is mine? This was only about
10% moded, considering the percentage of code I replaced vs what was already
there. Would I be infringing on SCA's rights? :-)

PS: anybody else get a free virus with the purchase of WordPerfect?

You need to mod 100% of the code before it is yours. Either that,
or (after looking at it and assuming no non-disclosure was signed), writing
your own from scratch.

A MOVE PSW patch isn't exactly the most difficult thing in the world
to do, and consequently not worth being commercial ware or even shareware.
Rather, you should simply distribute it in public domain or as freeware.
