[] I have some questions about the BridgeBoard which I've been using on my A500 and A1000. I noticed a "serial gadget" in the PC Prefs, what is this for, according to the manual which came with the board you cannot access the Amiga serial device from the PC side, is this to allow Amiga access a serial port on the PC side and does this explain the existence of an address for COM1 in the Janus stuff? We have a key-protected CAD package for the PC which we were going to use on the BridgeBoard, but found that we had to plug in a serial/parallel card on the PC side to attach the key to, it wouldn't work attached to the Amiga parallel port even though it was assigned to the PC side, anyone have any ideas about how to make the Amiga parallel port function like LPT1? Most importantly, I put a couple of old 20MB drives on the PC side and am using one for the PC and one for the Amiga. The key thing is that these are not new drives and the one in use for the Amiga has some bad blocks on it. I've partitioned around the bad blocks, but there must be a better way to take care of bad blocks. Will the new Fast File System handle bad blocks? The easiest way to handle them that I can think of would be to create a bad block file and link the identified blocks to the file, this is not possible with any of the existing disk tools that I know of (diskdoctor, disksalv, disked, or sectorama), before I start working on such a tool I'd like to know if one already exists, and what the FFS will do about bad blocks. Okay, I may get kicked in the posterior for asking a possibly dumb question, but... How are you using a BridgeBoard with an Amiga 500?? Are you using a third-party expansion chassis and who is it from? Or is it something homegrown? or what?? An inquiring mind wants to know!! _ /| \`o_O' ( ) Aachk! Phft! U Mark K. Someone care to explain Bridgeboard in A500s or |yes. >A1000s? I am beta testing the Bill's Boards BusExpander (referenced in the Dec. issue of Info magazine), the product is expected to be ready by the end of the quarter (end of March) and will have a very competitive price. The nicest thing about it is that the same board works on both the 500 and 1000, so if you have a 1000 and decide to buy a 500 for the expanded chip memory, you don't lose the investment you have in A1000 expansion hardware. For more information contact: Bill's Boards 9528 Miramar Rd. Suite 181 P.O. Box 26500 San Diego, CA 92126 or call (619) 578-6719 There is a new brochure in the works, should be available in the next couple of weeks. >David Masterson >DMasterson@cup.portal.com I hope that answers your question. -- _ /| Fundamentally Oral Bill \`o_O' UUCP: {akqua,hplabs!hp-sdd,sdcsvax,nosc}crash!billd ( ) Aachk!
