[comp.sys.amiga] File archiving

Has anyone written a program for the Amiga to process files that are in
TAR (UNIX Tape ARchive) or SHAR (SHell ARchive) formats? If not, does
anyone have complete specifications of these formats that a potential
programmer would need?

[Gack! I hate trying to get mail to BITNET.]

There are a couple of programs. There is John Gilmore's (...!hoptoad!gnu)
Portar (portable tar) which is a complete tar, and tarsplit which will
read tar files. And Dave Wecker's Shar program that will shar and unshar
(with the -u flag) shar files. All of these are available on Fish Disks
(I am beginning to need a Fish Disk Yellow Pages database!)

These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.
