[comp.sys.amiga] Hard drive partition gets trashed

barrett@ektools.UUCP (Chris Barrett) (03/09/88)

I have a problem that I hope that someone out ther can help me with:

I have a CLtd SCSI interface with an Adaptec ACB-4000 SCSI to ST506/412
board and a Seagate 4038 hard drive with auto parking heads. I have the
drive partitioned into 3 10Mbyte partitions. The problem is that the
third partition always becomes corrupted, the other two are fine. I try to
do the AmigaDOS format on the partition but it stops dead and then the
whole drive locks up. I've tried two Adaptec boards and two hard drives,
but still the same problem. There are no defects in the cylinders on DH2:
in the way of hard or soft failures (according to the Seagate spec and the
low level format routine). Also any ideas as to why it takes about 40
tries to get the drive to do a low level format? Does the drive think it's
write protected? Thanks for any help.

Chris.
