In the most recent CACM there is a (satirical, I hope) article by some folks from PIXAR about ray-tracing desserts, especialli Jello brand gelatin, though they think the methods will work for other brands too. Near the end of the article, they describe future research avenues, including doing the processing on "a roomful of amigas". It is a cute article.

Obviously satirical with lines like "every paper about graphics must have some mathematics..." followed by a rather irrelevant (irreverent?) complicated-looking equation. The CACM article, however, is a reprint. The paper was first published in the proceedings of last year's SIGGRAPH, complete with color pictures.
