[comp.sys.amiga] "Homebrew" External Floppys

frohne@pur-ee.UUCP (Henry R Frohne) (03/14/88)

Help Wanted:
I recently obtained an IBM 5.25 inch floppy drive and IBM power supply.
I have been experimenting with hooking it up to my Amiga 500. I have had some
success in making it read when using PStransformer as an IBM drive. However,
I haven't been successful making it write yet. I have not been able to make
it work as an Amiga drive either, as I get a message saying there is no handler
present when I try to format a disk for the Amiga. Has anyone else out there
hooked up an IBM drive to the Amiga with more success? I would appreciate any
tips on how to do this. Also I would like to know where I can get the schematic
for the external Amiga 5.25 inch drive. I believe I would have no trouble
figuring out what I'm doing wrong if I was able to take a peek at one of those.
Also, regarding the A500/A2000 Technical Reference Manual, does anyone
know if this kind of thing is included in this document. I have been waiting
for my copy for over a month now.

Help Offered:
I have been using an IBM 3.5 inch floppy drive on my A500 for about
four months now with no major problems. I would be glad to share the
interface circuit with anyone who is interested. It uses only two chips,
a 74LS74 and a 74LS38. If you would like a copy, send me an S.A.S.E. and
I'll send you one. My address is:
