[comp.sys.amiga] Request for IPC people

c162-fe@zooey.Berkeley.EDU (Jonathan Dubman) (03/19/88)

I've been following the whole IPC discussion pretty closely, but I don't know
how to react to a lot of the proposals because I'm not quite sure what the
vision is.

I heard a neat idea: "Save" pictures from Deluxe Paint II to Butcher. I've
got only vague notions of a community of coexisting routines for things like
data compression or 3-d modelling that talk to one another. I know you're
on to something big, but I'm not yet used to this object-oriented approach.

Can anyone write an inspiring, rousing scenario of the USE of this
miraculous protocol? Kinda like the uninitiated asking "What good is
multitasking." That would help me to evaluate the smaller issues like
"Should all messages be replied to" and so on. I think a lot of people in
comp.sys.amiga would also appreciate such a posting. It would justify the
200K file called "ipc" on my UNIX account.

I'm trying to keep up with all these ideas - where do you guys get this stuff -
from state-of-the-art software companies or from graduate courses I haven't
taken yet? Or do you make it all up?
