I just bought an Amiga 2000 and am now in the market for a C compiler. I've read a lot of net-talk about Manx and Lattice, and still don't know which to get. I want to use C and assembler for writing games. I've been programming in C on UNIX for 5-6 years now, so consider myself an "advanced" C programmer, if that means anything. So far, the gist of what I hear seems to be that both Manx and Lattice are fine compilers and that both com- panies' hot-lines respond quickly to problems. I know that Manx has sdb, which of course is a big plus, but that Lattice is "coming out with sdb soon." I guess whichever company has put out the most recent version of its compiler is the one to get? That can't really be right! I think I'm most interested in: o price/performance o quality of manuals and technical support o most UNIX-like programming environment but if some experienced Amiga programmer out there knows of some question I should be asking but am not, I would welcome being prompted. Finally, is the best way to buy the compiler to go through the company or via mail-order? (I'm starting a subscription to AmigaWorld). I also want to buy a set of CBM Reference Manuals, but am not sure just where to look for them. My local dealer will be happy to order anything for me, but such orders sometimes take months. Thanks for any help you can give, and I apologize profusely if these questions were answered profusely between December and March (I was off the net). -- Bill Stoll ihnp4!attunix!wws I'm just a programmer and part-time bassoonist

I can't help with the compiler choice, but about that subsciption to Amiga World... Get a subscription to Amiga Transactor. This is THE magazine for technical content (All stuff, NO fluff). There is also a companion disk available with all the source and binaries for each issue. Transactor P.O.
