Well, here's the summary of responses to my question on 1000 maintenance for the keyboard. Thanks, Kent, for your sole response. He suggested popping off the keycap, swabbing it down with alcohol and then adding a drop of olive oil. Hmmm. Well, I didn't want to tempt myself to nibble on my keyboard so I left out the olive oil. I have tried the alcohol trick myself and it does tend to save your average flaky key. However, there are a few keys made of sterner stuff. Either the alcohol didn't help at all or the key would revert to its nasty tendencies after a few days. Kent's suggestion of using a "lubricant" led me to try TV-tuner cleaner. Alas, its performance was little better than alcohol alone. Consulting my Radio Shack catalog I next tried their "Cleaner Degreaser." A few days after using it, some keys would revert to their nasty ways. Some, however, didn't revert. Hmmm. Well, after repeated applicatio to the more stubborn keys, they too were better behaved. So, while my keyboard is much better, it's hardly like brand new. I even have a key that is completely dead. Thankfully, it's only the "8" on the keypad. I recall an article posted a looong time ago where the author described replacing some of the key mechanisms. Anybody know how to go about this?
