I'd like to see the protocols do more intelligent buffering of the incoming data, especially kermit. There's too much delay while the program writes buffers to disk. I've started using dnet for file transfers. Despite it's multiplxing overhead, it's windowed protocol along with no waiting for disks makes for much faster transfers. I'd like to see the emulation closer to perfect. I'd like to be able to play with the special attributes. For example, I'd like to specify the color of underlining and highlighting. I'd like to see the script routine rewritten as a state machine. Failing that, I'd like to see a multiway branch capability. I'd like an iconize gadget in the title bar. I'd like the "little" vt100 window to indicate activity by showing little bars that represent the lines of text just like X-windows. I'd like fancier menus. Like, selecting a "protocol menu" would pop up a window that would have all the gadgets related to file transfers. "Hang up" is too close to "Change directory" and too deadly. Why just yesterday I let up on the button too soon..... Perhaps put it in a different spot in the menu? Perhaps put it in its own menu? Perhaps pop up a "are you sure" requestor when it is selected? William LeFebvre Department of Computer Science Rice University <phil@Rice.edu>

Try getting used to using the keyboard equivalents (Amiga-D) for directory changes. I find its more foolproof and speeds things up quite a bit. The same is true for file transfer commands. True, this is a workaround (or a copout, depending on your point of view) with regard to the original problem (dangerous menus), but it may help in the time between now and VT100R2.9. While I'm up here, I'd like to thank those responsible for all the VT100 versions. I find them incredibly useful. Thanks a million!
