UUCP-Path: uunet!enea!tope I don't now if this is special for Sweden, but I want to put the question to the net anyway: If you should buy an Amiga 2000, are there any more hard disks to choose from than original 20/40 MB's? (Without the Bridgeboard in the machine, of course). If I want a cheaper hard disk or a larger one than 40 meg, is there anything to do? Is it possible to buy the controller card alone to the Amiga and then a SCSI hard disk with perhaps a PD drive routine? Any suggestions are welcome.

If your using the C= 2090 HD controller then, *YES* you can choose from HS's other than 20 & 40 Meg. Only a few things to keep in mind when picking a HD: #1 No single partition can be larger than 50 Meg. So if you have a 60 Meg HD - use 2/30 Meg partitions, 1/10 Meg and 1/50 Meg partition. You get the idea..... #2 You can only use "ST-506" or "SCSI" drives! There are several HD's listed in the 2090 manual that have been tested and are known to work. There have also been reports, here on the net, of other HD's that work. -- Dan Schein uucp: {ihnp4|allegra|burdvax|rutgers}!cbmvax!schein Commodore AMIGA ARPANET: cbmvax!schein@uunet.uu.net 1200 Wilson Drive Bix: dschein Plink: Dan*CATS West Chester PA 19380 phone: (215) 431-9100 ext. 9542 +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ All spelling mistakes are a result of my efforts to avoid education :-) +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ I help Commodore by supporting the AMIGA. But if you did have a Bridge Board and were using the 2090, could the IBM access it? Using the Janus software and virtual drives or something like that? -Doug Ghormley (dg2l+@andrew.cmul.edu) [This line left unintentionally blank.]

The Bridge software allows you to 'JLINK' a virtual disk on any amiga filesystem device, ie RAM:, DF1:, a hard disk, whatever. To the Amiga your MS-DOS filesystem will appear as a large file, filled with nonsense :-) To MS-DOS, it appears as a filesystem. -- andy finkel {ihnp4|seismo|allegra}!cbmvax!andy Commodore-Amiga, Inc. The latest issue of AmigaWorld features a 2-page article by Timothy Trimball, covering all the details on how to do what Andy is talking about with an AmigaDos hard disk. This includes tips, like how to "unlink" (close) the virtual disk before shutting down, so that next time you reboot the virtual disk is not a bunch of garbage). I am always amazed at the kind of games one can play with the Amiga. -- Marco
