I want to take this opportunity to assure those of you in netland that due to the articles blasting some jokes from Indy, I have initiated an article locally explaining why "tasteless" jokes should not be submitted to the network. I hope that this will satisfy both the people in netland and the people locally. I do, however, agree with Mark Horton's observation that as long as new sites and new people use the net there will always be the problem of misuse of some of the news groups. I am open to suggestions on how to solve this problem as I am sure the rest of the net is. I read the article mentioning something about a 'recording' mechanism and I am not exactly sure what that meant. If someone could elaborate, I would appreciate it. I also saw the article saying to change postnews to tell the user about the ug.jokes category. I think a real hard-core user might not take the warning. Also, I am not sure there has been an ug.jokes category. I have not seen one come across here yet and even when one does, it will probably be turned off.
