1st, thanx to everyone who offered help and suggestions on getting my hard disk to work. You guys are great! I put together a hard disk system for my 500 that I hoped would be cheap (comparably), expandable and upgradable. What I got was Pacific Peripherals Sub 500, an A2090 and ST251 and an external disk drive case. The biggest problem I had was with the disk drive case. Mounting the drive caused the B cable (I'm in SDP land) to put pressure on the cable plug and forced it into a bad position where it would look like it was working but wasn't (the drive would select, but prep would hang waiting for the drive to respond.) Then there were problems with power surges from fridges... Downers: There are 5 switches that have to be turned on in a specific order for the system to work. The power supply for the Sub 500 is big and ugly. It turned out to be more expensive than several new ways I've seen for adding a hard disk to an A500. Waiting for all the parts to come and wondering if it will work really bites the big one. Putting it together and debugging it can be frustrating (pray it works the 1st time) Uppers: My hard disk should work immediately, should I decide to upgrade, to an A2000/3000. I have an extra slot for another 2000 board which I can't wait to fill with extra memory. I can easily add another st506 hard disk and up to 7 SCSI devices with little extra cost other than the drive itself. If anyone wants further info, mail me. Now to start work on some killer games! --j -- jon wesener ... {seismo | harvard | ihnp4} ! {uwvax | cs.wisc.edu} ! astroatc!jojo "I say, why are those buildings swaying like trees?"
