Recent interfacing problems between my A500 and external Pro-drive led me to find a small quirk. It seems that when my printer is connected (via parallel) but NOT powered-on, my external disk drive will not function properly. However, with the printer on, the entire system works flawlessly. I don't know for sure, but I suspect this 'quirk' is either a result of the A500's weak power supply or something with the printer... So, if you or someone you love is having system problems that appear to be power-related, try leaving that printer on. It could save lots of frustration... -Bryan

It has nothing to do with the power supply. The supply does 1 Meg of ram + the external drive fine. What you are discovering is that the reset line for the printer port is common with the disk. While off, the printer is loading this in a manner your ProDrive finds objectionable. This may be the fault of the printer... but I would suspect the design of the ProDrive. |\_/| . I had the same problem. Your parallel cable is wrong. If your cable was set up for an A1000 it WILL NOT WORK on an A500. You need to delete two lines, If i remember correctly one of them is to pin 25 on the A500, the other i forget. If you can't get it email me and i will take my connectors apart. This A500 power supply business is a shame. Wonder how many non-power-related problems are attributed to the power supply? -- ron (rminnich@udel.edu)
