[comp.sys.amiga] AMIGA 3000 ... The real thing??

lgreen@pnet01.cts.com (Lawrence Greenwald) (04/07/88)

Yesterday, April 5, we at the San Diego Amiga User's Group (SDAUG) were
treated to something unexepected....

a preview of the Amiga 3000!!!

Several marketing people from C-A were in town demoing the machine to the
people at General Dynamics and somehow, our group president Steve Hartford
(hope I got it spelled right Stevie!!) was able to convince them to come
to our meeting and give a short preview.

The box itself was an A2000 with an "Amiga 3000" label over where it usually
says "2000" and the monitor was the Sony color monitor sold by Apple for
the MAC II, again covered by the Amiga 3000 sticker.

Important points:

  1) Machine will have 68030 AND 68882 math processor running at 20 Mhz

  2) Workbench was version 2.0 (!)

  3) Machine had 8 megs 32-bit memory (default config will be 2 meg)

  4) Screen had no flicker in interlace. The fonts were different (I
couldn't look at it real close but I think the Menu font was
      the Macintosh Chicago)

They were not from the engineering dept so they couldn't really answer any
tech questions but they said release was scheduled for 4Q 88.

[AN aside...HAH! I'll believe that when I see it.]

Anyway, the basic idea is that it will be an engineering workstation more
suited for business than home. I don't remember what they said about what
the price will be.

Anyway, here's some goodies to drool over.
