[comp.sys.amiga] PkAx, ARC, ZOO, and the quest for long filenames...

haitex@pnet01.cts.com (Wade Bickel) (04/07/88)

I recently aquired a program called PkAx (Pick-Axe) which is an
archive extraction utility which is very much faster than ARC.
Using this program I am trying to develop a floppy enhancement
system but have stumbled over the short filename allowance afforded
by ARC (whose archives PkAx can decode). I have subsiquently tried
using PkAx with Zoo encoded files, which it cannot handle :^(.

In the documentation there is discussion of a program called
PkARC, which will create archives, but it apparently is not available
for the Amiga yet. Does anyone know when or if PkArc might be
      released?

An alternatative would be to write a program which would rename
files to be archived to short names and form a file which could be
used to restore the original names after de-archiving. Does such a
      program already exist?

      						Thanks,

							 Wade.
