This, dear friends, is the obligatory "summary for the net". Numerous folks have come forth to help with identifying the songs I asked about...so here's the result: > 1. Has a repeated chorus which sounds like "You're so very picturesque"; > this is probably about 8 or 9 years old; has two basic phases, one a > quiet walking-bass type funk, and the other a full-blown rockin'-out > chorus. Guy Harris (rlgvax!guy) sez: Sounds like a song by the name of "Blue Turk" or somesuch, by Alice Cooper. The main chorus is "You're so very picturesque, you're so very cold, <etc>", but the last line has "You're so very ordinary, you're so very plain, <something...> and earthworms in your brain". Thanks, Guy...now that I think about it, that vocalist *does* sound like ol' Alice--now, off to the local recycled records shop. On to the second one... > 2. This one is brand-new (I think). The song starts off with an > acapella chorus for about 20-30 seconds (Unfortunately, I forgot > what they were singing!) and then the solo vocal kicks in with > "One down, one to go". Behind this is a weird little electric-violin > sounding thing...the harmonies and arrangement are reminiscent of > Gentle Giant, but the solo vocalist sounds like Jon Anderson of Yes. This one must have been easier, since multiple folks got it pretty quickly; thanks and a flick of the wombat ears to Stewart Wiener (tilt!smw), Bert Olsson (raven!bso), Dick Dunn (nbires!rcd), and Gary Koob (uicsg!gmk) for informing me that the song is called "Leave It", and is from the Yes album "90125". To anyone whose mail is currently in transit, thank you as well...I'm off to retrieve both of these, especially "90125" after I heard *another* interesting piece on WXRT last night; this one was introduced by a repeated xylophone/marimba ostinato; but don't worry about the title, I'll have the album in my little paws in a couple hours. -- "Oh dear...I believe you'll find that reality is on the blink again."
