[sent to the generic amiga-relay ARPA lists] This AM I sent a message as a reply to a note placed on the net on problems with using the prt: device in coordination with ARP commands. The original writer mentioned symptoms quite similar to a collegue's who also had problems printing things. The collegue came in this morning and reminded me that the problem was "solved" by using the appropriate printer device in Preferences. To wit: I use an Epson printer, he used GENERIC. When changing Preferences on the copy of the CLI-disk I had given him to reflect the use of the SER: port rather than PAR:, he changed the device to GENERIC as well, but DID NOT reinstall the GENERIC device back into the "printers" directory (I had removed all but the Epson for space reasons). Thus, the "printer busy" message was REALLY a "that printer device not found" message in disguise. To the original poster: Check to make sure that your printer type in Preferences matches one of the available printers in your sys:devs/printers directory. ARP/MEMORY-TYPE-OR-SIZE had nothing to with my collegue's printer problems... Russ <Smith@nrl-aic.arpa> JAYCOR Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence (whew!)
