[comp.sys.amiga] ARP v1.1 posting notes.

[ "The best government, is no government at all." ]

Following this notice, I will begin posting ARP v1.1 in several parts, so
as not to overflow the news spool on anyone's system (I hope).

There will be four groups of postings, each in multiple parts:

  1st: User documentation (2 parts)

  2nd: User commands (2 parts)

  3rd: Programmer documentation (3 parts)

4th: Programmer bindings, etc. (8 parts, possibly more)

Each of the 4 groups will be shar'd, uuencoded, arc files. Each arc file
is exactly what was posted on Compu$erve by Charlie Heath, hisself, and
contains multiple levels of embedded arc files, plus EXECME files to create
the directory structure, and rename long files.

After receiving all parts of a group, you'll need to strip the mail header
and .signature from each part, and then feed each part to sh. Then cat
(or join) the .uuN files together in numerical order to form a complete .uue
file (no blank lines between parts, please). Uudecode the .uue file, and
then start unarc'ing.

A word of warning. The EXECME's in groups 3 and 4 assume you have already
installed the ARP commands, as they take advantage of some of the extended
capabilities of the Rename command. Also, when you (finally) get down to
the Modula-2 bindings in the 4th group, you'll find that the EXECME file
is WRONG (the names have changed, and Benchmark support is now included).

I suggest you look at the EXECME's before trying to Execute them, and decide
for yourself whether to Execute them, or do the work "by hand". BTW, some
(at least one) EXECME file is really "execme" (lower case).

After finally getting everything busted apart, you should have a good idea
why I'm advocating more use of the Zoo archiver ... all this busywork would
have been taken care of completely automatically by Zoo (and the archive
files would have been a couple percent smaller, to boot)!

/kim
