[comp.sys.amiga] A500 Warranty Problems

jhoffman@sunbalt.UUCP (Jim Hoffman ) (04/21/88)

In February I purchased a new A500 after selling my IBM PC. The
reason for purchasing the machine was to get into a multi-tasking,
windowed environment that allowed for a good development system and
at the same time appease my children with a good game machine.

Shortly after installing it I noticed that the floppy disk was eating
some of my good disks. At first I thought that it might be bad disks
but in mid-March the system would not even recognize that the workbench
disk was in the drive.

I returned the A500 three weeks ago to Comp-U-vision in Millersville,
Maryland for warranty repair. I am now told that Commodore has yet to
ship the floppy disk (after three weeks) and it may be several more
weeks before I get my A500 back. This was from Mr. Dennis Stoner at
their repair facility (301.381.3390).

Has anyone else had problems with the internal floppy drive?

Come on Commodore -- Comp-U-vision wonn't even give me a loaner to use
while mine is in the shop -- what's the deal?

I asked if the warranty period would be extended since they have had
it so long. I was told it was a Commodore warranty and I should speak
with them. Ok Commodore whom should I speak to?

I also purchased a 500 in February and had a drive die, but it was the external
drive (wouldn't eject). My sister's 1000 developed the save problem after a
year and a half. Seems to be the weak link in the machine. The dealer that
we both dealt with had spare drives in stock and did the repairs while we
waited (HT Electronics in Sunnyvale, CA)!

You should contact our customer support reps. @ 215/436-4200 9-5 eastern time.
They can inform you of CBM's policy regarding warranty details. They also might
be able to get you in contact with someone in our service dept. to help find
out what the delay is. (No promise on that one though)
