[comp.sys.amiga] Watch out for Computer Discount

jdc3538@ritcv.UUCP (Jim Cronin) (04/13/88)

Have any of you had any kind of experience with an outfit called
"Computer Discount" in Denver, Colorado? I ordered a Supra hard disk
interface in early March. I was told that they had one in stock and
would send it out tomorrow. They billed my Visa account the next day.
Three weeks elapse. Nothing. Call 'em up. "Why Mr. Cronin, it just
so happens we sent it out this very day." What a coincidence! Another
week goes by. Nothing. Another call. "UPS must have lost it. Give me
your number and we'll get back to you RSN."

So what's the deal with places like this? Do they lie about what they
have in stock, or is it a simple cashflow thing, increasing "float" by
billing early and shipping late? (or never?)

My experience wirth Computer Discount has been much better. I ordered a
Bridgecard. The said they had none, but will get me on the list. I got it
3 weeks later. They charged my card the day they shipped. The Bridgecard
was faulty, they sent me replacement chips. I could not get it to work, and
I got a replacement with no problem. Computer Discount is not a fly-by-night
operation, being owned by Progressive Peripherals and Software. All people
there seem to be very curteous and helpful. Just my 5 cents.

I ordered an A2090 from them back in December. I asked them to send it UPS 2nd
Day Air. Two days later it arrived at my house.

well, i had good luck in buying power windows. Now i have heard
of backorder software delays from them; and my father is having a delay from
Computer Mart in getting some back-ordered software. From this
extensive market survey :-) I conclude that the amiga software
market is taking off!!

I've had good experiences with them, with both my modem and some software.
Missed the original posting that asked the question, though.

. . . now at 2400 baud, so maybe I'll stop bothering to flame long includes.

Hmm, I deal with them directly (ie: drive down there, walk in and
talk to the guys.) and haven't had any trouble...
I know for a fact that they have them in stock. (well , as a general
rule, anyway... maybe not right this very second, but usually)

It's entirely possible that it _really_ was lost by UPS. (but somehow,
not very likely.) Its also possible that they are stalling for "float"
but again, not very likely. (Maybe I'm biased...) Most probable is
that they just lost your order...

Bug 'em about it!
