I recently sent this letter to another user as a result of some comments I've recieved for a news item (What's all the BULL-dated July 14, 1982) I submitted. Rich, My original intention was to let this whole mess just die but because there seems to be a lot of flack caused by my news item (Jul 21 1982-TITLE "What's all the BULL") I feel I should make some clarification at this time. Firstly, I never said that I thought that there was a lot of "B.S." going on as far as management was concerned. As I stated in a previous posting to the net (Jul 14 1982 -can't recall the title) I was in agreement with management's request to limit the news groups to which we can access. What I objected to were the respones from many who were glad that this censorship came about because "netnews should only be used for an exchange of ideas related only to work" (this is not verbatim). From their point of view, all non-work related newsgroups were a waste of time and merely provided a forum of meaningless "bull" sessions to those interested in things such as movies, theater, music travel etc. I felt that there is nothing wrong with the so-called "chew-the-fat" newsgroups as long as those who want to "B.S." do so on their own time (ie. during lunch, after work). So in taking this position, I saw those persons who are only intersted in the work related newsgroups as also "chewing-the-fat" or to use a more common colloquialism "BULL****ING". I did not intend to be neither profane nor offensive by using this word in my observation. In conclusion I apologize to all who misinterpreted what I was trying to say. My mistake was in making a statement where I was the only one who knew what I meant and not expressing my ideas clearly enough for all to understand. I now realize that mine is not the only opinion and I should use better judgement before expressing my opions to all. A. M DeSimone
