[comp.sys.amiga] Choosing an Amiga

doug@homxc.UUCP (D.SULPY) (05/04/88)

Please excuse this posting, if my questions seem to simplistic. We're in
the process of choosing an Amiga, and I feel we need all the help we can
get. I use an IBM Clone (and even have an antique Apple II), and plan to
use the Amiga primarily for graphics, sound, and fun.
This is what I'm thinking:
AMIGA 500: Pros - Seems to be the most popular
of the bunch. Price is right. Cons - Attached keyboard (difficult to go back to
after using an IBM), Questionable power supply to handle the extra memory,
graphics devices, etc. which we someday hope to add, extremely poor
reliability reviews from people here on the net.
AMIGA 1000: Pros - Seems to do everything the 500 can do, and doesn't have
some of the drawbacks the 500 has. Refurbished models can be had for about
the same price as the 500. Cons - They don't seem to be making them anymore,
and the LAST thing I need is ANOTHER antiquated computer. I'm also not
particularly fond of the design where you have to keep plugging things into
the side of the machine. Eventually little parts of my computer will overrun
my desk.
AMIGA 2000: Pros - More memory. Internal slots. Looks nice (let's be honest..) Cons: PRICE! I seem to be paying the extra cash for a machine that'll let me
become PC compatible. Since I'm already PC compatible, this seems rather a
waste. From the reviews, the actual function of the machine doesn't seem to
be that much different than the 1000.
Okay. Can I have some suggestions? Email or whatever? Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
