[comp.sys.amiga] A500 questions

vkr@osupyr.mast.ohio-state.edu (Vidhyanath K. Rao) (05/10/88)

2meg board + A501. I have several questions about this set-up
1. If I boot without a disk in the external drive, the DOS refuses to
believe that df1: exists. why?
2. Somebody told me that the 500 puts out forced wait states on the
external connector. Is this true? What kind of penalty does this impose?
[I ran the `timeram' from fish disk no. 96. The numbers I got were strange
C->C 12083 12000 14950 14950   Col I: No other program loaded, no interlace
F->F 12166 12200 12166 12216   Col II: TeX, mg1b, etc loaded (1.5M used up)
C->F 12383 12366 12366 13266  Col III: HAM screen displayed
F->C 12216 12216 13349 13333 Col IV: TeX etc loaded, HAM screen display
The diferences between cols 1 and II cannot be explained by timer errors.]
3. What experiences have you had with hard disks and the subsystem? In
particular, is it possible to use the new hard disks from Conner with the
10A power supply that pacific peripherals sold me.
4. What is low down on the expandsion memeory at hexC0000? Is it used by
the Fat Agnes? [the manual seems to contradict itself on this. It also shows
Agnes with an A19 pin.]
5. I get quite a few soft errors with the external drive. The dealer tested
it out and said it was okay. But doing `copy df1: to ram: all' produces half
a dozen soft errors. no errors if I used the internal drive.
