[comp.sys.amiga] KickStart 1.3

Daniel_Zenchelsky@rubbs1.UUCP (Daniel Zenchelsky) (05/11/88)

Is Kickstart 1.3 available?
If so, is it available for the 500?
If so, how much?

                  Thanks,
                     Daniel Zenchelsky

I would also like to know the answers to these questions.

Cheers--

Al

  KickStart 1.3 is not available just yet.... To quote an old saying "RSN"

  The ROM version will work in both the 500 & 2000, and a disk based version
  will be available for those w/1000's.

  As for cost, I don't have even a rough guess. Sorry.

Everybody at DevCon got a FREE 1.3 Kickstart ROM. No date was given
for actual public release.

I know, not to helpful huh? Well, many developers have early releases of
1.3 (certainly everyone who went the the developers conference does) and
their talking about it tends to confuse folks. The reality is that it is
not available yet. (And you don't want a prerelease if you are a regular
user because it may crash horribly and you would be bummed). Anyway, when
it is released, myself and others will be sure to post a message saying
so with as much information as possible so that you can run out and buy
it. And yes, it will be available in ROM because they gave some of those
out at the developers conference too.

These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.

Well, at least now we know what we don't know.

I wonder if it will be available in Mississippi though? I ask because since
1.2 came out, only 12 authorized versions of 1.2 have ever reached the
Jackson area. I having been one of the lucky ones. While there are probably
only 100 or so Amiga owners in the area, I only wonder if I'm going to have
to bribe my way onto someone's waiting list again.

  Well if it isn't available in Mississippi, im sure it will be available via
  CATS. Just like the 1.2 Enhancer kit is and was :-)

Well, for Ewan and others, you could always order a copy yourself direct
from Commodore. This does require a bit more effort but the disks get
delivered right to your door! Seriously, the CATS group in Westchester
can sell you a copy of 1.2 (or 1.3 when it is available) for the same
price as the dealer sells it for. Note that the upgrade is not free.
Some people around here were confused at first thinking that their
dealer would call them in and hand them an upgrade pack. It was however
nearly free ($15) so no one I know complained.

And in case you are wondering, CATS address is :
	CATS
	Commodore Business Machines
	1200 Wilson Dr
	Westchester, PA 19380
You could write to them and get a list of some other stuff they sell
(like developers notes, programmers documentation, etc)

Thanks Chuck but we're pretty busy right now. Here's a repost of the
support materials list and ordering information so the whole world
won't have to send in requests for the list. :-)

                      DEVELOPER SUPPORT MATERIALS
                      ===========================
                              May, 1988

        The following is a current list of developer support materials
     available directly from Commodore Amiga Technical Support.

        The version of each item is either an official version number
     or the release date. The prices are for orders within the U.S..
     Canadians should add $2.50 shipping costs per item. For foreign
     orders, add $5.00 shipping costs per item. All prices are in
     U.S. dollars.

        To order any of these items, send a check or money order made
     out to Commodore Business Machines, to:

           CATS - ORDERS                <----- (Department)
           Software Administration      <=\
           CBM                          <==\ CATS
           1200 Wilson Drive            <==/   address
           West Chester, PA  19380      <=/

        Be sure to include your name and address, and the name(s) of
     the item(s) you are ordering. If you are a registered developer,
     place your developer number on your check and envelope front
     for faster service. Delivery may take 4-6 weeks but is generally
     much quicker.

        Note - if you would like your order FedX'd, supply your FedX
     number or major credit card number for FedX shipment charges.
     (You must still pay for the materials themselves with a check)

     DISCLAIMER: All materials are supplied as-is and do not include
                  updates.
