In brief: My father cannot get his Sidecar to recognise all the memory that it contains, no matter how we set the DIP switches and jumpers. He has an Amiga 1000 with an internal memory expansion (to 1.5 meg) and a Sidecar attached. The Sidecar has 512K on the main board and a hard disk card added, partitioned between the Amiga and the Sidecar. Right now, the Sidecar seems to think that it only has 256K of memory, if the figure returned by CHKDSK and the failure to load certain programs can be construed as valid evidence. However, the Norton Utilities SI program indicates that it finds two blocks of approximately 256K of memory. Yes, we read the Sidecar manual. Yes, we know about the two sets of DIP switches and the jumpers. Yes, we set them according to what the manual says they should be. We have also tried other settings just to see what would happen. When we do that, CHKDSK always says we have 256K, but Norton's SI gives wildly different answers. I am beginning to suspect that the Sidecar manual is not telling the whole story. Dad has taken the whole setup to his dealer (a 60 mile drive, by the way) to see what they can do, but they know zippola about about the problem (which is not too surprising). Can someone out there on the net give us a hand? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Jim Tubman | | "Bullets bounce off me like | The Computer-Guided Diagnosis Project | | raisins off an Oldsmobile." | University of Saskatchewan | | | Saskatoon, Saskatchewan | | -- Mr. Canoehead | S7N 0W0 Canada | | | {ihnp4,alberta,utcsri}!damask!tubman | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
