Regarding the feasibility of using UUPC on an Amiga - I have been using UUPC for approximately one year now. I get a compressed (16 bit compress) feed of about ten newsgroups (comp.sys.amiga, comp.sys.amiga.tech, comp.sources.amiga, comp.binaries.amiga, comp.os.minix, rec.humor, rec.humor.funny, comp.sys.m68k, sci.space, sci.space.shuttle) and it averages at about 150k-200k of compressed material per day. This is (roughly) 300k-400k after de-compression. By being careful, it is possible to get this ammount of news on a two floppy system. I have uupc, mail, uu[en/de]code, compress, and shar in my command path, and use the empty 880k floppy for receiving the news. You do need 1.5Mb to effectively use the 16 bit compress (it is possible, but barely, to use it on an un-fragmented 1M machine). ...Bill -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | // UUCP: {ihnp4!alberta!ubc-vision,uunet}!van-bc!bhami!bhenning | | // -or- bhenning@bhami.van-bc.UUCP | | // BITNET: USERCCPM@SFU.BITNET | | \\ // ARPA: William_Henning%sfu@um.cc.umich.edu | | \X/ [I prefer UUCP mail as I only check my SFU mail periodically.]| +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
