I am thinking about upgrading to an A2000 sometime soon. I have worked on a 2000 before, and really like it, except for the one big problem: the keyboard. I absolutely hate the keyboard. The layout is quite nice, but the feel is real squishy compared to the A1000 (what I have now). Does anybody make keyboards that plug into an A2000 and give that nice touch of an A1000 keyboard? Is it possible to build an adapter to plug an A1000 keyboard into the 2000 or are they completely incompatible? Bryan

OK, here's sort of a summary of the responses I got from my question. Of course, I got the "I like the 2000 keyboard better than the 1000 keyboard" response - personal tastes I guess. I was told that it would be easy to hack up a DIN/phone connector adapter to connect a 1000 to the 2000. Apparently they both use the 8520 serial line to communicate with the keyboard, only the connector is different. Several people told me about a new keyboard for the 2000 which has a better feel, "fat" function keys, and the old left-amiga key (instead of the chicken head key), which has been shipping for a few months. (I'm going to wait to upgrade until I can get a 2000 with this keyboard.) Well, there's the three solutions I got: learn to like the keyboard, hack up a connector, or get one of the new keyboards. >....Is it possible to build an adapter to plug an A1000 keyboard into the >2000 or are they completely incompatible? Not only is possible but also quite easy to plug the 1000 keyboard to the 2000. Elecrical signals are the same, all you will need is a little adapter to convert the phone plug into the 2000 keybord connector. I also know of one company which will be comming out with a little adapter to plug in any IBM AT type keyboard (and/or optical scanners) to the 2000. It would be nice if Commodore build this in for the next generation machines. I don't know of any programs that will become incompatible (other than those Psygnosis type games, which are incompatible already with the 2000 keyboard), if such a thing was to happen. If anyone from Commodore engineering is listening, what would it take to make all future Amigas IBM keyboard compatible?
