As one of the myriad new viewers of NETNEWS (or whatever it's called),
I am bewildered by the many obscure newsgroup names, and by the
meanings (or contents) of them. There is also considerable variation
in selection of newsgroups to which to post articles (jokes in
net.misc). Could somebody withi some experience and knowledge of
the usage of this network please post a <list> of the various
common newsgroups, and their nominal contents?
I realize that this network is an amorphous body with no head, tail,
or digestive tract, so that there is no way to really get a complete
and definitive list of newsgroups. I am also aware that there are
many local-networks sharing facilities with USENET. But, in view
of the volume of traffic (flames) about how to use (or not use)
the network, any light on the subject would help (e.g. does this
note really belong in net.general?).
