YAHOO! THE BARD IS BACK!
I just bought my copy of Bards' Tale II: The Destiny Knight.
Here's some thoughts -
The look and feel is real close to Bard I. The music is pretty
close to (if not actually) the same as the first game. (I am
only talking about the music in the adventurers guild).
The general rules are the same, except there are more spells
to learn.
The scenery includes lightly wooded areas between towns. Everything
is more detailed than it was in BT 1. (Don't be misled by the poor
graphics on the box. Cheap advertisers I guess.)
The monsters are all new and different.
If you are transfering characters from BT I, you cannot just copy
them onto your new character disk. You MUST use the transfer
command under disk options from inside the game. The easiest thing
to do is to make a new character disk as described in the documentation.
Then use the disk options to load BT 1 characters. Then save them
to the new character disk. This will overwrite the default
characters for BT II. (This is OK) The format for the character
files must be different. It is MUCH nicer to have characters with
hundreds of hit points than characters with tens of hit points. But
I am concerned that I might not get the full taste of BT II with
my old characters. I may not FIND things that I would find with new
characters. I don't know.
Bards' Tale I was my all time favorite game. It looks like BT II will
carry on the tradition!!
P.S. I would advise anyone tackling this game to play BT I first.
Also, BE WARNED. If you try to play this game without mapping each
level on graph paper, you are missing 70% of the game. Have fun!!
