[comp.sys.amiga] C-Robots, From the Author!!!!

jmdavis@ihlpm.ATT.COM (Davis) (08/09/88)

I found this lurking in rec.games.programmer. Given the recent
interest in Crobots in this newsgroup I thought I would post it here.

CROBOTS source is available through the author (me!) It shouldn't be
available through any other party.

CROBOTS is distributed as shareware, and there is a CROBOTS.ARC package
floating around on BBS, CIS, Source, etc. It contains an MS-DOS executable,
full documentation, sample robots. I ask a monetary contribution if you like
the software and plan to use it. As a bonus, I distribute the source code,
provided one sends in the license (last page of docs). I license the
source code on a personal use basis, meaning one shouldn't make it publicly
available to others. I also include all of the CROBOTS programs that
users have sent to me (>30), so that you will have more battles to fight.

$20 is the suggested contribution, and I provide the
diskette & mailing. The shareware distribution package is available from
me, no charge, provided you send me a diskette, mailer, & postage.

CROBOTS is written entirely in C, orginally on a Xenix 286 machine. Other
users have successfully (and with little difficulty) ported it to other
unix systems, including VAX 4.3/Sys V, Unix PC, Gould, NCR, et.al. I think
the biggest problem was a sign extention on the Unix PC, where I used a
constant 0x8000 to an (int) type; changing the declaration to (short int)
fixed the problem. A `curses' screen driver is provided, along with
YACC & Lex grammars. Porting it to other machines/os's may be a little
more involved: I am aware of Amiga and Atari ST. It also ports well to other
MS-DOS compilers; I used Lattice to do the MS-DOS version.

I do have a new address since the current version was released:

Or, send mail to att!ncsc5!tsp.

Hope this helps.
