[comp.sys.amiga] how about a mac][ on an amiga budget

MFM1%LEHIGH.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (mark masters) (08/12/88)

I've been seeing alot of talk about comparisons of a beefed up A2000
compared to a mac][. There has also been alot of talk about unix, and
now there has been a comparison with a '386 machine.
   Let's see, a mac][ costs about $2300, for $2300 I bought my
A2000 with a bridgecard and a color monitor and 2 floppies. Now if I
were to have spent that same hard earned cash on a mac, what would I
have? A box with one floppy, no keyboard, no mouse, and no monitor.
Not much use eh?
As for unix, I've been using a sun 3/160 for several years, and I
must admit I like unix, I've liked it since the first time I used 7
years ago. However, I have found that it is just too difficult for me
to maintain the system well. At home, I'm happy with AmigaDOS. I can
understand why some people would want unix on their Amiga, but I don't
think it is necesarily for everyone. And a mac][ running unix would
never have worked for me.
Comparisons to '386 machines are similar to comparisons to the
mac][. You have to spend a lot of money to get something which is
useable.
I just wanted to say that perhaps the amiga will never
capture a business market. No one ever said that the business market
was very wise in their purchases. There are alot of people in the
world who are learning to use the computer, its an ever growing number.
Not everyone can afford a mac][, or a '386 box. If you can't afford
one of those what are you supposed to do, buy an old PC clone with an
8088? I think my Amiga is a godsend, and it saved me from my old msdos
machine.
Finally, all this bashing is ridiculous. Most computers have
something they do well, and having a computer is preferable over not.
The only place where I saw this much arguing about the 'my computer is
better than yours'(put in a nasal tone) was on Info-Atari. Be glad with
what you have.

I would have put something here but I wanted to leave a blank line.
