[comp.sys.amiga] Adding another bit to the colortable, and Fat AGNUS questions

koster@cory.Berkeley.EDU (Herbert West) (08/14/88)

I think I would like to see a 64 entry colortable on new hardware versions.
Why they didn't put it in in the first place is beyond me. After all, there
is provision for six bitplanes. And 64x12 bit memory won't bankrupt anything,
will it?

I think I will buy an Amiga 500 when I can be sure of the FAT agnus chip
being built in and in good working order. I saw in Amigaworld a letter
talking about a guy having trouble with his. He had his 500 and Agnus went
out, and he waited four months before he got a replacement in from
Commodore. And then, 6 to 8 hours later the chip burned out again! Now he
said he's getting out of the micro game altogether, although I think it's
just an idle threat.

Is there any truth to this letter? Are the Fat chips flaky? Are new 500's
shipping with the FAT chips standard?
