A new newsgroup, net.news.config, has been created. This is the same newsgroup whose name was originally suggested as net.news.downtime. The name was changed to make it more general. The new newsgroup is for public announcements of temporary and permanant changes in configuration. This includes letting the net know that your site is going to be down for an extended period of time (e.g. over a day) and of changes to how news is routed. If a site is going to be down, they are requested (but certainly not required) to warn the net about it in this newsgroup. This is somewhat more important for central sites. If your site goes down unexpectedly, and looks like it will stay down long enough to cause problems for the rest of the net, you can post to it from a neighboring site. (Either use your guest account there or call the system administrator and ask him/her to post a note.) Mark
